Lions Global Priority Hunger Relief

Improve food security and access to nutritious food to help alleviate hunger across vulnerable communities.

Back to All Causes
4 Key Sub-Initiatives

No child should ever go to bed hungry, nor should any family suffer from severe nutritional deficits in our communities. In direct response to recent economic challenges, food price inflation, and household vulnerabilities across Sri Lanka, District 306 D9 mobilizes robust humanitarian feeding initiatives, daily school breakfast kitchens, and monthly dry ration distributions.

Lions clubs in Sri Lanka collaborate with local agricultural networks, community leaders, and micro-entrepreneurs to establish sustainable food banks, school vegetable gardens, and emergency relief centers. Our focus centers on ensuring that primary school students receive wholesome, protein-rich morning meals so they can focus on their studies without the distraction of hunger.

To build long-term community resilience, our Hunger Relief programs incorporate livelihood empowerment, including MAF micro-grants for home gardening, organic farming kits for rural women, and sustainable community agriculture drives. By pairing immediate relief with self-reliance training, Lions help Sri Lankan families achieve lasting food security.
