Lions Global Priority Vision
Help prevent avoidable blindness and improve quality of life for people who are blind or visually impaired across Sri Lanka.
Since 1925, when Helen Keller challenged Lions to become 'Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness,' vision preservation has remained the single most historic and iconic cornerstone of Lions service globally. In District 306 D9 Sri Lanka, our commitment to sight restoration touches thousands of lives every single year through grassroots eye screening camps, free spectacle distributions, and life-changing surgical interventions.
Across our 65+ chartered clubs in the Cultural Triangle, North-Central Province, and Central Highlands, Lions work hand-in-hand with ophthalmic surgeons, municipal health authorities, and rural hospitals. We focus heavily on early detection of refractive errors in primary school children, diabetic retinopathy screening, and funding corneal transplant procedures for those who cannot afford specialized tertiary eye care.
Beyond clinical interventions, District 306 D9 actively invests in low-vision rehabilitation and community eye care infrastructure. Through Lions Eye Hospitals and mobile diagnostic vans, we ensure that vulnerable populations—such as tea plantation workers, elderly villagers, and low-income families—receive continuous, high-quality eye care services at zero cost.
