Community Eye Care & Spectacle Distribution Campaign

Clear vision is essential for personal health, quality of life, and daily occupational performance, particularly for workers in precision-based industries such as apparel manufacturing. Uncorrected refractive errors can lead to eye strain, fatigue, reduced productivity, and diminished quality of life. To address these vision care needs, the Lions Club of Pilimathalawa organized a joint community eye care campaign hosted at Shakthi Garment, extending clinical eye screenings and corrective optical care to factory staff and surrounding society members. The initiative was executed in two systematic phases. First, a team of qualified optometric professionals conducted detailed vision assessments to screen participants for common refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Factory workers and visiting community members received individualized consultations regarding eye care hygiene and vision protection. Following the diagnostic screenings, customized prescription spectacles were manufactured and distributed to all individuals identified with vision impairments. For the employees at Shakthi Garment, clear eyesight directly reduces daily eye fatigue and supports workplace accuracy and safety. For the broader community, receiving custom-fitted spectacles restores independence and eases everyday activities. Through this joint service campaign, the Lions Club of Pilimathalawa reaffirmed its commitment to preventative healthcare, workplace wellness, and community upliftment.
