Donate Blood, Save Lives

The Lions Club, in collaboration with the Trincomalee Harbour Police, organized a Community Blood Donation Campaign to strengthen the national blood supply for patients needing lifesaving transfusions. To honor their contribution and promote environmental sustainability, every voluntary donor including police officers, local residents, and well-wishers was gifted a fruit tree sapling, successfully combining healthcare support with green community initiatives.

Project Narrative & Scope

Maintaining a safe, steady supply of blood products is essential for emergency medical care, surgeries, and long-term patient treatments across national hospitals. To help replenish essential blood banks and foster local civic engagement, the Lions Club partnered with the Sri Lanka Police – Trincomalee Harbour Police to host a joint Community Blood Donation Campaign. The campaign brought together civic volunteers and law enforcement personnel in a shared humanitarian effort. Qualified medical teams oversaw the donation process, ensuring high standards of safety, donor screening, and care throughout the event. Donors contributed vital units of blood aimed at supporting critical care patients, surgical cases, and emergency medical treatments. In an innovative blend of health service and environmental stewardship, organizers presented each donor with a fruit tree sapling as a token of appreciation. This dual-purpose incentive recognized the personal generosity of participants while encouraging home gardening, reforestation, and local environmental health. By pairing a lifesaving blood drive with a green initiative, the Lions Club and the Trincomalee Harbour Police reinforced community solidarity, healthcare support, and sustainable ecological action.
