Project Narrative & Scope

Healthcare environments demand high standards of hygiene and infection control, particularly for medical personnel performing continuous, day-to-day patient care. To support the healthcare staff at Kegalle Hospital, the Lion Lady Association of the Lions Club of Mawanella organized a community service project to donate reusable cloth napkins (serviettes) covering the operational needs of the entire hospital facility. Led by Lion Dr. Nayana Suraweera, the initiative aimed to enhance sanitary resources for health officers as they carry out their clinical and administrative duties. Managing health facilities requires continuous access to essential hygiene supplies. Health officers frequently require durable, reusable cloth serviettes during routine clinical procedures, sanitization tasks, and daily ward management. Under the medical and civic leadership of Lion Dr. Nayana Suraweera, the project systematically calculated the requirements to ensure that staff across all wards and departments within Kegalle Hospital received adequate supplies. By equipping the entire hospital staff with these practical supplies, the Lion Lady Association helped strengthen daily sanitary protocols while easing the logistical burden on the health facility. The project underscores the value of community-led partnerships in supporting frontline healthcare workers, ensuring they have the essential resources required to maintain a safe and clean environment for patient care.
