Project Narrative & Scope

Preventive healthcare and regular health monitoring are critical to reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and hypertension, particularly among essential workforce sectors. On August 20, 2026, the Lions Club of Trincomalee Town partnered with the Sri Lanka Navy to conduct a specialized Workplace Health Screening Programme for the staff of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), bringing clinical health services directly to the occupational environment. The screening program was structured to offer seamless diagnostic access for SLPA employees during their work schedule. Qualified medical personnel provided individual health assessments to identify early indicators of metabolic and cardiovascular risks. By detecting elevated blood pressure or high blood sugar levels before severe symptoms manifest, the program enabled workers to seek timely medical intervention and lifestyle modifications. Beyond clinical diagnostics, the health drive served as an educational platform to emphasize the importance of routine health monitoring, balanced nutrition, and active living. The collaborative effort between the Lions Club, the Sri Lanka Navy, and port management highlights the effectiveness of civil-military cooperation in delivering healthcare solutions. Through this initiative, the Lions Club of Trincomalee Town reinforced its dedication to employee wellness, occupational safety, and community health.
