Project Narrative & Scope

Environmental conservation and inclusive community development came together through a dedicated tree planting initiative hosted at the Differently Abled School in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Designed to foster environmental responsibility while improving the physical school environment, the program brought together volunteers, educators, and local civic leaders to plant a diverse selection of fruit-bearing, shade-providing, and ornamental trees throughout the campus grounds. The event focused on transforming the outdoor spaces of the facility into a green, nurturing environment. Volunteers worked alongside teachers and students to select suitable planting locations across playgrounds, pathways, and common areas. Beyond the immediate ecological benefits—such as soil stabilization, shade creation, and localized air purification—the initiative served as an empowering therapeutic activity for the all person involved. Engaging in planting activities allowed children with special needs to connect directly with nature, building sensory awareness and a sense of ownership over their school environment. This tree planting campaign reinforces long-term environmental sustainability while enriching the educational atmosphere for students in Kandy.
